The group that could arguably be named American’s favorite country quartet is coming to Maysville.

Carlson Software of Maysville, announced recently that the acclaimed Oak Ridge Boys, Country Music Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry members and Grammy winners, will be appearing at Carlson’s International Users Conference on Tuesday, May 7.

The concert will be held at the historic Washington Opera House in downtown Maysville and is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets will be offered for sale to the community one week before the performance. All proceeds from the sale of the tickets will go directly to the Washington Opera House and the Maysville Players. Ticket sales will be handled through the Washington Opera House website, maysvilleplayers.net, or by calling Debbie Lewis at 606-584-4888.

The current Oak Ridge Boys consist of four members: Duane Allen, lead; Joe Bonsall, tenor; William Lee Golden, baritone, and Richard Sterban, bass. The group was originally founded in the 1940s and was known as the Oak Ridge Quartet. Their popularity grew in the 1950s when they sang southern gospel. In the 1960s, they changed their name to the The Oak Ridge Boys and continued singing gospel until they started concentrating on country music in the mid 1970s.

Several of the group’s well known hits are “Elvira,” “Bobbie Sue,” and “American Made.” The four current members have been together since 1973.
