Mason County High School is now a part of the Amazon Future Engineers program.

MCHS computer science teacher Sean Jackson said the program sponsors computer sciences courses and will allow the school to offer courses such as Intro to Computer Science and advanced placement computer science classes through a program called Edhesive.

The program offers preparatory lessons, tutorials and professional development for teachers, fully sequences and paced digital curriculum for students, and live online support every day of the week for both teachers and students, according to Amazon.

Jackson said he is excited about the program.

“This is a great honor for the school and the students interested in this field of study,” Jackson said. “We are thrilled to get this sponsorship because of the type of curriculum and support it provides to students. With our classes now having this designation, students will be able to distinguish themselves and apply for very selective scholarships or internships in the future.”

The program was launched in November 2018 as a part of a four-part childhood to career program, according to a representative with Amazon.

“Each year, Amazon Future Engineer aims to inspire more than 10 million kids to explore computer science; provide over 100,000 young people in over 2,000 high schools access to Intro or AP Computer Science courses; award 100 students with four-year $10,000 scholarships, as well as offer guaranteed and paid Amazon internships to gain work experience. Amazon Future Engineer is part of Amazon’s $50 million investment in computer science/STEM education. In addition, Amazon Future Engineer has donated more than $10 million to organizations that promote computer science/STEM education across the country,” the representative said.
