A grand opening for Lucas Cinemas 4 is set for Nov. 15 with a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m., followed by a reception until 7 p.m.

The theater is reopening after it was closed in June for renovatons.

The cinema is located in the same location as the Maysville Cinema 4 in the Gateway Shopping Center at the intersection of U.S. 62 and Kentucky 9.

In June, Jason Grimmett, with Drinkard Development, who owns the strip mall in which the theater is located, said the theater would “look much better and be a whole different experience for moviegoers.”

The renovations for the theater will include a complete overhaul of the building, according to Maysville Economic Development Director Owen McNeill.

“Investment in the theater will include new seating with wider, more comfortable chairs with much more leg room, new audio with surround sound in each auditorium as well as additional sound insulation, new carpeting, wall covers and other amenities and new wide-view screens,” he said.

A representative with the theater said there will also be assigned seating in each of the screening rooms. When purchasing tickets, guests will have to choose their seat before entering.

“Each seat will be numbered,” he said. “We’ll have the screens at each of the ticket stations and they’ll pick the seat they want. There will also be a phone app in which they can purchase tickets and pick seats.”

McNeill also said the theater will be a first-run theater, meaning it will play new movies as they are released.

The theater will also receive new bathrooms, an update to the concession stands and the curtains in each of the movie theaters have been removed.

McNeill said he was pleased to see the theater remaining in Maysville.

“It’s outstanding,” he said. “The investment in Lucas Cinema 4 is certainly positive for our area enabling not only citizens to have an additional entertainment option but to ensure local entrepreneurs and businesses are retaining those dollars. Entertainment options such as Lucas Cinemas 4 comprise a large portion of the outstanding quality of life in Maysville and our area, attracting not only additional citizens but also manufacturing and industrial executives and their associated workforce to our region.”

The Kentucky Career Center is also currently accepting applications for positions at the theater until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, with interviews beginning Monday.

A Facebook page has been set up for the theater where updates and photos can be viewed. That page can be found by visiting https://www.facebook.com/LucasCinemas4Maysville/
