A Maysville man was treated for a gunshot wound Monday following an accident at his home Monday, according to Maysville police.

Police were called to the home of Marc Cates on Ashwood Drive just before 3 p.m., in reference to an accidental shooting, according to a release from the Maysville Police Department.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found Marc Cates with a gunshot wound to the right hand. The bullet entered the hand from the back and remained lodged there, according to MPD officials.

Officers spoke with Marc Cates and Dana Cates, the alleged shooter. Both patties said the shooting was accidental and took place as Dana Cates was showing Marc Cates her .380-caliber Glock handgun, police said. The handgun accidentally fired as it was being shown and struck Marc Cates in the hand, according to officers.

Marc Cates was transported by Maysville Fire/EMS to Meadowview Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, police said. He is scheduled to undergo surgery later this week to have the bullet removed, officers said.

The incident remains under investigation by MPD although no foul play is suspected at this time, officials said.
