Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 9, state highway crews and contractors will temporarily close Lexington Street (Kentucky 2519) at Maysville to build a retaining wall to repair an embankment failure that occurred during last year’s flood, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesperson Allen Blair.

Lexington Street will be closed about 1,000 feet from the Kentucky 11 intersection just before the tunnel, and will remain closed around the clock for the next two to three weeks, he said.

Barricades will be placed at Kentucky 11 and at Kentucky 10 (Forest Avenue) with only local traffic permitted past those points. All traffic needing to access Standard Supply, Wald Park, and Limestone Terrace will need to enter from the Kentucky 10 (Forest Avenue) end. Traffic needing to access any location south of Limestone Terrace will need to enter the road from the Kentucky 11 end.

Thru traffic can utilize Kentucky 11, U.S. 62, and Kentucky 10 to detour around the project.

Message boards will be used toa lert motorists, Blair said.

School buses and emergency personnel have been notified of the closure, he added.
