The Maysville Rotary Club Annual Oktoberfest Committee is encouraging downtown businesses to get in the spirit of Oktoberfest.

The Rotary and its co-sponsors, the Maysville-Mason County Area Chamber of Commerce, The Ledger Independent, and the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center are asking for downtown businesses to join in the fun by entering this year’s Oktoberfest Window Decorating Contest.

Prizes are up for grabs in the contest — the first- place winner will receive a one-year Chamber Business Membership (with as much as $225) and a full-page ad in The Ledger Independent. The second-place winner will receive a corporate membership for one year at the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center. This membership allows employees and their immediate family members free admission for one year.

“Decorated windows add enjoyment to the festival and should be completed by July 30, Rotary Oktoberfest Chair Dawn Browning said.

Judging is set for July 30, and winners will be revealed at the Rotary Club weekly meeting on July 3.

Oktoberfest is scheduled for Aug. 10-11 in downtown Maysville and traditionally features German music, dancing and food along with events for children at a Bavarian Fair and the crowning of Maysville’s Oktoberfest King and Queen contest. There are also games and Wiener dog races.

Those entering the window decorating contest should notify the organization by email [email protected] .

“We hope everyone gets excited about this contest, we know that your participation will only serve to make our downtown more exciting to visit by our citizens and guests,” Browning said.
