Negotiations are underway to purchase the Maysville Cinema 4 and reopen it to the public.

The theater is located at 1579 U.S. 68 in the Gateway Plaza next to Rural King.

Jason Grimmett, with Drinkard Development in Callum, Ala., said the company has been in deep negotiations to purchase the building for some time.

“We are getting close to finishing everything,” he said.

According to Grimmett, once the negotiations are complete, the company will begin renovating the theater and have it reopened to the public.

“We have several renovations to complete,” he said. “It will look much better and it’ll be a whole different experience for the moviegoers there.”

Drinkard Development was interested in the property because it was its mission to keep a theater in Maysville.

“We’re determined to make sure Maysville continues to have a cinema,” he said.

No date has been set for the reopening of the theater, as everything will depend on the negotiations and how long the renovations take.

The theater, which is currently owned by AMC Theaters, shut down in late May to the surprise of many in the community. AMC had taken control of the theater last year, after it bought out Carmike Cinemas, who had owned the theater, and several others across the company, for years. AMC decided to terminate the lease in late May, leading to the discussions with Drinkard Development.

Grimmett said he will release information once the negotiations are complete.
