We have been blessed in our area with great athletes and awesome accomplishments over the years in various sports, but one may be overlooked. That is the sport of trapshooting and presently we have Dalton Ritchie who is a world class marksman in the sport. But let’s go back to a lady from Maysville who dominated the sport for decades. Helen Ryan captured not only state titles, but huge national events was won by Helen Ryan. The sharpshooter from Maysville won her first big event in the Vandalia, Ohio Grand American event in 1954 as she nailed 96 out of 100 targets from 20 yards. Helen Ryan went on to capture many state and national titles.

The entire Ryan family were expert marksman as her husband Ed and her son Eddie also captured many trapshooting titles over the years. The Ryan’s farm on KY11 near Lewisburg was the site of many topflight shooting events as they held many live and clay pigeon shoots at their complex.

The correct answer to last week’s question was that John Harbough’s father Jack was the head coach of Western Kentucky. The first to answer were Tom Sims, Mallory Denham along with Ronnie Berryman and Jack Jenkins.

This week’s question pertains to Orangeburg High School. What former head basketball coach for the Orangeburg High Tigers later guided two different teams to the Kentucky High School State Tourney?

Last week: 15-5, (187-53 YTD, 78%)

Mississippi over Mississippi State: The Egg Bowl is a big event in this state, but I pick the Rebels by two.

Texas over Kansas State: I know the Longhorns are struggling, but I pick them in a slight upset.

Iowa State over TCU: I don’t think that TCU’s defense has enough to win this game.

Utah over Colorado: The Utes ended any chance that Oregon makes the CFP playoffs last weekend.

Cincinnati over East Carolina: The Bearcats not only win this game but need to pick up style points.

Ohio State over Michigan: The Maize and Blue pay Coach Harbough big money to beat Ohio State, it isn’t going to happen again this year.

Tennessee over Vanderbilt: I am sure that Vandy is happy this season is over.

West Virginia over Kansas: Kansas pulled off a shocker a few weekends ago, but I take the Mountaineers.

Kentucky over Louisville: A few weeks ago, I thought this would be a cakewalk for the Cats, but it will be a battle to the end.

Pittsburgh over Syracuse: The Panthers are sneaky good and should roll in the Dome.

Georgia over Georgia Tech: Big time rivalry game and anything can happen, but it will not as the Dogs roll.

Purdue over Indiana: The Preseason polls had the Hoosiers in the top 20, this season has been a train wreck for the Hoosiers.

Baylor over Texas Tech: The Bears can flat out put up some points and they will versus the Red Raiders.

Oregon over Oregon State: The Ducks after last weekend are just playing for pride.

Notre Dame over Stanford: The Irish are hitting on all cylinders in the past few weeks.

Oklahoma State over Oklahoma: Big rivals, high scoring game as I go with the Cowboys.

Clemson over South Carolina: Clemson is not the Clemson from the past few years, but I pick them in this one.

Western Kentucky over Marshall: I take the Toppers in a slight upset in Huntington.

Florida over Florida State: I know the Gators fired their coach but somehow, they win this one.

Alabama over Auburn: Roll Tide will be heard early and often in this heated Iron Bowl game.
