Campbell County broke out the bats and kept coming.

The Camels scored 28 runs, tallied 31 hits and drew 20 walks in three games on their way to a third 10th Region baseball title in the last five seasons with a 8-5 victory over Harrison County Tuesday night at Meinken Park in Covington.

A five-run third inning got the Camels out of a 5-2 hole and Calvin Bertram came on in relief from there to close the door, pitching four scoreless to preserve the victory.

The Camels earned their way to the trophy, knocking off arguably the No. 1 seed in Montgomery County in the quarterfinals, defeating 10th Region Player of the Year Dalton Davenport and Nicholas County in the semifinals and another top seeded team in Harrison County on Tuesday. In 19 innings of play, they went down 1-2-3 just once in the tournament, their final at-bat in the championship game.

They’ll now advance to the semi-state round of the KHSAA state baseball tournament to face Lafayette on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at University of Kentucky’s Proud Park.

Harrison County was looking for their first 10th Region title since 2013 and 12th as a program. They’ve now lost in the 10th Region championship game in three straight tries in 2015, 2017 and 2021.

This will be Campbell County’s fifth trip to the state tournament.
