Sarah Fite recorder her lowest round as a member of the Kentucky women’s golf team and earned herself a top-10 finish with it at the Minnesota Invitational on Tuesday.

The Mason County grad shot a one-over 73 on Monday and followed it up with a two-under 70 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at one-under, good for a tie for seventh in the field of 81 golfers.

After dealing with numerous weather delays on Monday, the Invitational was shortened from 54 to 36 holes. Fite got through four holes of her second round on Monday after the 73 to start the day. She was one-over in her second round to start on Tuesday and finished three-under in her final 14 holes to get to the two-day score of 143 (-1).

The junior tied her career low on Monday with the 73 and went out and beat it on Tuesday with the 70. Fite played as an individual in the tournament as she continues to show an improved game that showed up in practices this preseason, according to the UK Athletics website. She was in the top 10 for much of the first round with four straight birdies from hole No. 9 to hole No. 12. Fite recorded four birdies and a bogey on Tuesday to get her to the college career-low mark of 70.

Kentucky won the event as a team, shooting a team score of one-over and topping East Carolina by three strokes in their first tournament of the year.

The seventh-place finish for Fite was her second best of her college career.

UK’s next tournament is at Morehead State’s Greenbrier Invitational September 16-17, the site of Fite’s best career finish as a Wildcat, where she finished tied for fifth last season.
