Mason County rising sophomore Mason Butler collected his first win of the summer on the Kentucky Jr. PGA Tour Series.

Butler shot a 1-over 73 at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead to claim the victory, topping London’s Eli Fischer by a stroke. Butler’s round consisted of 10 pars, four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.

Butler is expected to lead the Royals this upcoming golf season, much like he did in his freshman year collecting numerous top-10 finishes at tournaments throughout the season. With a switch to the 12th Region, the Royals are expected to compete for a regional title with a roster that returns its top five golfers.

The win could help build confidence for Butler leading into the KHSAA golf season that will begin on August 3. Butler had only played in two other events the past few months on the Junior Tour, placing 10th at the Battle at Boone’s Trace National Golf Course in late April and finishing 31st at the Kentucky Boys Junior PGA Championship at Gibson Bay Golf Course in the beginning of June.

One of his top competitors expected in region play will be Lewis County’s Logan Liles. Liles finished tied for fourth with a 6-over 78. Liles play has been limited over the summer due to a broken finger suffered towards the end of the spring baseball season for the Lions.
