Sports Calendar



Maysville Community and Technical College will hold their 28th annual Scholarship Golf Scramble Friday, July 12 at Laurel Oaks at 1 p.m. The scramble uses proceeds to benefit the MCTC Foundation scholarship fund for students.

The participation fee is $75 per player, which includes green fees, cart rental, and lunch. Teams are capped at 6 per team, golfers are encouraged to bring their own team and individual golfers will be assigned teams by the golf committee.

Cash and merchandise prizes will be awarded to 1st-3rd place teams plus a 4th place team blind draw and a split-the-pot drawing. Every participant will be eligible to win a door prize.

Various individual hole prizes will be awarded and the hole-in-one prize provided by McFarland Chevrolet Buick. The David Iery Foundation will hold a 5K run and Walk on Saturday, July 13 at the Tollesboro Lions Club Fair. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the race is scheduled for 9 a.m. It is $15 to preregister and $20 to register the day of the event. Registration includes a free t-shirt. St. Patrick cross country practice for grades 2-12 will start July 15, 8 a.m., at the Tom Browning Boys & Girls Club on Maple Leaf Rd. Grades 2-6 need to bring their middle school sports physical and health insurance. Grades 7-12 need to bring their high school sports physical and health insurance. The Bryan Conway Junior Memorial Golf Tournament sponsored by Schumacher Insurance will take place July 17 at Kenton Station. The tournament is open to all boys’ and girls’ between the ages of 9-16. Entry fee is $5. Call (606)759-7154 to sign up.


The Manchester River Days 5K run/walk will take place August 3 at 8:30 a.m. at the Riverfront. The 5k run is flat to gently rolling hills that begins along the riverfront. The walk is 2.2 miles around town. Entry fee is $15 for advance registration which guarantees a T-shirt, $20 the day of the race. Medals go to the top overall male/female runners and top three for each division. Divisions for runners are 14 and under, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over. Walkers divisions are under 40 and 40 and over. The Project Malaria 5K run/walk will take place August 10 downtown Maysville at Limestone Landing. Registration is at 7 a.m. and the race starts at 8 a.m. The race is in conjuction with the Oktoberfest events.
