The 10th Region Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association has announced the 2019 Hall of Fame Class. Here’s a brief glance at each of the inductees.

Players

Whitney Owens Hoffer: St. Patrick

Scored 1,442 points at St. Patrick from 1999-2004. Helped lead the Lady Saints to the 2002 39th District Championship and three 10th Region All “A” Runner-up finishes. Led team in assists from 2002-04 and was selected to the All-10th Region team in 2003-04.

Taylor Christman: Paris High School

Scored 1,504 points, pulled down 464 rebounds, 202 assists and 323 steals with the Lady Hounds from 2003-06. Eighth all-time in program history, second in 3-pointers made. Hit the game-winner in the 10th Region Final to help give Paris the title in 2004 over Harrison County. All-10th Region first team from 2004-06. Lexington Herald-Leader All-state in 2004 and 2006. Played collegiately at Shawnee State.

LaDonna Turley: Harrison County

Played for the Fillies from 2000-07, scoring 1,505 points, knocking down 180 3-pointers, recording 518 assists and 241 steals. Played on the 2002 Fillies regional championship team.

Keller Menke Fields: Mason County

Fifth all-time on the Lady Royals scoring list with 1,637 points from 2006-10. Averaged a career-high 18.8 points her junior season. Two regional runner-up finishes in 2007 and ‘08.

Erin Carmack: Deming High School, 2004-208

Scored 2,188 points with Deming from 2004-08.

Coach

Patrick Kelsch: Bracken County

Coached the Lady Bears from 2007-15. Won 125 games and three 39th District titles in 2011, ‘12 and ‘14. Led the Lady Bears to two 10th Region All “A” titles in 2010 and ‘15.

Contributor

Jason Butler: Mason County

Has been with the program since 2000. In addition to being a varsity assistant coach, Butler has taken the role of “Director of Basketball Operations” for the Lady Royals program. Butler organizes team travel, fundraising and other team functions or logistical needs that often goes unnoticed. Butler served as the freshmen and JV coach for the Lady Royals and is also currently the head coach of the Lady Royals Golf team.

He has organized the Free Throw Scholarship program at the boys and girls regional tournaments, which has given thousands of educational dollars to students in the 10th region.

Faye Thornton: Pendleton County

Served as the State Leadership Training Institute Director for over 20 years. Thornton has had a hand in training hundreds of Athletic Directors throughout the state while almost every AD in the 10th Region. She has taught thousands of classes in the state. Served on the state board of the Ky High School Athletic Director Association since it’s inception.

Veteran’s Committee

Dawn Snedegar: Bath County High School, 1991-1995

Scored 1,310 points, pulled down 376 rebounds, dished out 146 assists and had 183 steals from 1991-95 at Bath County. Was a freshman on the 91-92 team that won the EKC and set a school record with 21 wins.

Wendy Rankin Mahana: Bourbon County High School, 1986-1989

Finished with 631 points and pulled down over 500 rebounds with the Lady Colonels from 1986-89. All-10th Region team in 1988 and ‘89. Went on to play at Transylvania University. Were 10th Region runner-ups twice. Current assistant coach for the Lady Colonels for 11 seasons and is the school’s Athletic Director the last two years.

Part of the winningest senior class at Bourbon County that saw them go 86-32 in four years, including 26-3 her senior season.

Terribeth Brunker: Harrison County

Four-year starter who scored 1,029 points in her career from 1990-95. Ran cross country at Centre College.

Toni Stevenson, Estill County

Alice Vanhook: Oddville

Vanhook played for the Kittens four Sweet 16’s from 1928-31. Was a key reserve on the 1928 team, starting forward the other three years. In all, during Vanhook’s four years, the Kittens lost in the championship game twice to Ashland and reached the semi-finals one other time. Was named to the all-tournament state team in 1931.

Kristy Orem: Fleming County

Led Fleming County to seven district titles and 15 region tournament appearances with a runner-up finish in 2015. Fleming County was a member of the 10th region for the first five years of Orem’s tenure before being moved to the 16th region. Had a 275-205 record over 16 seasons at Fleming County and overall record of 368-259 including her time at Scott County and Pikeville.
