Dixie Heights took care of business against Fleming County to open the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic at The Fieldhouse on Saturday.

The Lady Colonels started the game on a 9-0 run and held the Lady Panthers without a field goal in the second and fourth quarters to come away with a 74-23 win.

Kaylee McGinn started the 9-0 run with a layup, before an and-one from Madelyn Lawson, a 3-pointer from Celia Pelfry and a free throw from Pelfry.

Grace Morris got Fleming County on the board on a putback with just under five minutes to play in the quarter and the Lady Panthers cut the Lady Colonel lead to five at 11-6 with 3:37 in the period. Fleming County got within three points twice in the frame – once at 11-8 on a layup from Krishani Jackson and at 13-10 on a layup from Sidney Argo – but two free throws from Halle Caple put Dixie Heights up, 15-10, at the end of the first.

The Lady Colonels started the second quarter on a 10-0 run with the help of two triples from Pelfry, who finished with a game-high 17 points. Dixie Heights outscored Fleming County, 20-5, in the period. All of the points scored by the Lady Panthers came from the free throw line. Pelfry had 11 points in the quarter and finished the half with 15 as the Lady Colonels took a 35-15 lead into the break.
