When days turns into years and years became decades we often forget about great achievements by local athletes.
One was what the great track star from Maysville High school, Victor Hamm achieved 50 years ago. Victor Hamm along with 19 other top runners in the nation were invited to run a marathon in Chesapeake, Ohio. Victor not only won the race against the best, but he set a National High School record in the race. Hamm ran the course in 2 hours, 16 minutes and 55 seconds. He beat the previous record by 10 minutes.
Victor in his career set records at the Mason-Dixon Games in the six-mile race and he held records at other track venues. Victor also raced in the Boston Marathon and he traveled to Oregon to train and race with the iconic Steve Prefontaine. Victor Hamm traveled all over the US and Central America before injuries cut his track career short. Amazing what he did and how he trained and like I said time sometimes robs our memory, but he sure could run.
The answer to last week’s trivia question was that the sousaphone player dots the “I” at Ohio State games. The first to answer were Doug Calland, Chuck Preston, Jamey Tolle along with Mallory Denham, Tom Sims and Ronnie Berryman. This week’s question pertains to Fleming County football and national championships.
What former Fleming County football player was a member of the 1995 and 97 Nebraska Cornhuskers National Championship teams?

This Week’s Picks:
Boston College over Louisville: I don’t think the Cards can rebound from last week’s beatdown.
Notre Dame over Pittsburgh: The Irish are rolling with their new toy, an offense.
Maryland over Rutgers: The Turtles are playing well considering all the off the field problems.
Michigan over Wisconsin: Big league game and tough one to pick but I go with the Maize and Blue.
Northwestern over Nebraska: A few years ago, I would say this would be a mismatch, but the other way.
Auburn over Tennessee: The Tigers are going to take out their frustrations on the Vols.
Texas over Baylor: I am starting to believe in the men from Austin.
Florida over Vanderbilt: Could be a trap game for the Gators in Nashville, but I pick them by six.
Alabama over Missouri: The Tigers are the next team up to leave Bama with a loss.
Penn State over Michigan State: What happened to the Spartans last week?
Georgia over LSU: I almost picked the Tigers to upset the nationally ranked Dawgs, I said almost.
Davidson over Morehead State: The Eagles travel to North Carolina and they will have trouble with Davidson.
Ohio State over Minnesota: The Buckeyes will score as many points as there are lakes in Minnesota.
Mississippi over Arkansas: The Rebels win this SEC West tilt by four.
Western Kentucky over UNC Charlotte: The Toppers have been up and down this season, but I pick them to win this one.
Texas A&M over South Carolina: The Aggies defense made a believer out of me.
Indiana over Iowa: My upset pick of the week as I think the Hoosiers can pull it off.
Lindsey Wilson over Georgetown: Huge Mid-South game in Georgetown, I pick the Tigers to lose by three.
West Virginia over Iowa State: The Mountaineers are rolling but this one will be highly contested.
Utah over Arizona: This Pac-12 game will be high scoring and I pick the Utes.
