West Union entered the season with 14 of the last 15 Southern Hills Athletic Conference boys’ golf titles.

But a new champion was crowned on Thursday.

Daulton McDonald and Luke Hayslip led Manchester in the final round of the league tournament at Snow Hill Golf Course as the Greyhounds closed out their SHAC championship with a 28-stroke victory over West Union. Senior Logan Hayslip added an individual title for the Greyhounds with a four-day total of 168.

Luke, the younger Hayslip, finished the tournament in second, just one stroke back of his older brother, and McDonald finished in third with a four-day total of 170. Logan Hayslip was a stroke behind the leader after the first round at Hilltop Golf Course, but a second-round score of 38 and a third-round score of 39 helped pull ahead, before closing out the final round with a 49.

Manchester had a 17-stroke lead after the third round at Whiteoak Golf Course and Logan Hayslip held a seven-stroke lead over his younger brother. The Greyhounds pulled away from the Dragons after being tied following the first round at 174 strokes.

Manchester finished with a team total of 687 over the four-day event. West Union was second at 715, Whiteoak was third at 742, North Adams was fourth at 764 and Ripley was fifth at 787. Eastern Brown finished sixth, Fairfield was seventh, Lynchburg-Clay was eighth and Peebles was ninth.

The top 15 golfers in the tournament were named to the All-League team. Behind McDonald on the individual leaderboard was Whiteoak’s Zach Harless in fourth. A pair of West Union golfers – Carson McFarland and Dakota Pell – finished in a tie for fifth at 178 strokes, and Clayton Jones finished eighth at 180. Sandwiched between the trio of Dragons was Ripley’s Peyton Fyffe in seventh with a four-day total of 179.
