A pair of local golfers claimed the top two spots in a local tournament on Monday.
Lance Sininger, a rising senior at Georgetown, claimed first in the boys’ 16-18 age division at the 50th Junior Chippeways at Maysville Country Club, while 2018 Mason County graduate Bryan Walton finished second in the division.
Sininger, who claimed an OHSAA Southwest Division III sectional golf title last fall, fired a 1-under 71 in the 18-hole stroke play tournament. He recorded a bogey on the fifth hole, but back-to-back birdies on the seventh and eighth holes and par on No. 9 got him 1-under through the front nine.
He moved to 2-under with a birdie on No. 12, but bogeyed the 14th hole to move back to 1-under. After pars on 15 and 16, Sininger finished off his round with a birdie on No. 17 and a bogey on No. 18.
Walton, last year’s winner, finished second in the age division with a 10-over 82. Benjamin Wood finished third in the division, while Nathan Cantrell was fourth and Emerson Day was fifth.
Other winners included Max Kearns in the boys’ 13-15 division and Lauren Mays in the girls’ 13-18 division. Playing nine holes were the boys’ 10-12, boys’ 7-9 and girls’ 10-12 age divisions. The boys’ 10-12 winner was Jay McCuen, the boys’ 7-9 winner was Tripp Johnson and the girls’ 10-12 winner was Riley Johnson.
The event is part of the Greater Cincinnati Golf Association 1905 Junior Tour and winners from each division were awarded 110 points toward the Player of the Year race. Others finishing in the top-10 also received points, with the amount depending on their finish. A full breakdown of points can be found on the organization’s website.
