CLEMSON, S.C. — Left fielder Mike Antico had a three-run homer and catcher Wayne Mascarella had three RBIs as St. John’s defeated Morehead State 11-5 to stay alive in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
The Red Storm (40-16) will need to win three more games to advance into the best-of-three super regional round. Morehead State ends its season at 37-26.
Antico’s homer in the sixth inning put St. John’s ahead 6-1. After the Eagles cut things to 6-4 with six straight hits, the Red Storm put the game away with three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth.
St. John’s starter Kevin Magee (7-3) earned the win, allowing six hits and three runs in five innings.
Third baseman Eli Boggess had three hits and two RBIs for Morehead State.
The game was delayed about two hours because of lightning in the area.
