Opening round postseason matchups are set for baseball and softball in Ohio.
Here’s a look where each coverage area team will start:
West Union: The Dragons got off to a 9-1 start this season and earned a No. 4 seed in the Southeast Division III sectional/district bracket. They’ll face off with Northwest, who earned a No. 13 seed with a 1-14 record, on May 9 at 5 p.m. West Union fell to North Adams on Friday and lost two games at the Zach Farmer Classic at Piketon over the weekend. They’ll finish off the regular season with home games against Eastern Brown and Fayetteville-Perry before heading into the postseason.
Eastern Brown: The Warriors struggled to find wins early in the season and landed as a No. 12 seed with a 2-9 record. They got their third win of the season on Friday at Ripley, and will look to keep improving before a first round matchup in the Southeast Division III sectional semifinals against Valley, who earned a No. 5 seed with an 8-8 record, on May 9 at 5 p.m.
Peebles: Peebles posted a 4-8 record to earn a No. 8 seed and earn a date with Sciotoville on May 5 at 11 a.m. in a Southeast Division IV sectional semifinal. Sciotoville submitted a 2-10 record to earn a No. 9 seed.
Manchester: The 1-9 Greyhounds will face off with No. 7 Notre Dame on May 5 at 11 a.m. in a Southeast Division IV sectional semifinal. Notre Dame was 6-9 when records were submitted for the postseason draw. Manchester’s only win this season came at Ripley on April 10, 5-1, behind a two-hitter from pitcher Cade Colvin and three RBIs from Kyle Reaves.
Georgetown: The G-Men will open Southwest Division III postseason play at Fayetteville-Perry on May 7. Georgetown beat Seven Hills, 19-16, on April 21 for their only win, but have lost four straight since. The Rockets enter as a No. 12 seed with a 4-8 record.
Ripley: The Blue Jays enter the Southwest Division IV sectional bracket with a No. 8 seed and will take on No. 4 New Miami on May 9. Ripley posted a 1-11 record, while New Miami was 6-12 when records were submitted.
West Union: The Lady Dragons posted a 2-9 record to earn a No. 13 seed and a first round matchup with Eastern Brown on May 8 at 5 p.m. West Union’s first victory came over North Adams, 11-7, and the second came against East, 14-5.
Eastern Brown: The Lady Warriors posted a 9-3 record to earn a No. 4 seed in the Southeast Division III sectional semifinals. Eastern won eight straight games to start the season, including a 19-1 victory over West Union in the first meeting. The two will face off again in the regular season on Tuesday in West Union.
Peebles: Peebles picked up a first-round bye in the Southeast Division III sectional playoffs with a 9-4 record. They earned a No. 3 seed and will face the winner of No. 6 Glenwood (6-9) and No. 11 Whiteoak (4-12) on May 10 at 5 p.m.
Manchester: The Lady Hounds earned a No. 4 seed in the Southeast Division IV playoffs with a 9-4 record. Manchester will get a bye in the first round and face the winner of No. 5 Valley (7-3) and No. 12 Sciotoville (1-15) on May 10 at 5 p.m. The Lady Hounds fell in their latest game to Fayetteville-Perry, but have five games scheduled before the postseason begins, starting with Eastern on Monday.
Georgetown: The Lady G-Men submitted a 4-11-1 record, earning a No. 9 seed and a first round game in the Southwest Division III playoffs against No. 7 Clermont Northeastern (5-8) on May 7. Georgtown fell to CNE on April 11, 9-4, and will face them again in the regular season on Wednesday before the postseason matchup. The winner will get No. 11 St. Bernard (3-13) on May 9.
Ripley: The Lady Jays posted a 3-8 record to earn a No. 6 seed in the Southwest Division IV playoffs. They’ll face the winner of No. 3 Cincinnati Christian (7-4) and No. 8 Lockland (2-7) on May 10. Cincinnati Christian and Lockland have regular season games scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday.
