Mason County’s Malkolm Devine tossed a complete game, six-hitter efficiently in a 4-3 win over West Carter Saturday at the Royals Field.

The Royals got a four-spot in the first inning and let Devine’s arm do the rest in the one-run victory, avenging an 11-3 loss to the Comets, April 5. The win improved the Royals to 4-5.

Devine needed just 87 pitches to go the distance. After giving up three runs in the first three innings, Devine pitched the final four scoreless, retiring 10 of the final 12 batters of the game. He struck out three and walked three.

In the pivotal four-run first, J’Kari Gause drew an RBI walk, scoring Carson Brammer. Tyler Fearis followed with what ended up being the game winner, a bases loaded three-run double clearing the bases to make it 4-1 Royals.

The Comets added two in the third on a two-run single by Lallaham. Neither team was able to put up anymore on the scoreboard from there. The loss dropped West Carter to 7-9.

Devine also led the Royals at the plate, recording two of their five hits on the day. Brammer, Feari’s double and Zach Drury were the only others to record hits. Mason County returns to the diamond Tuesday, at Scott.
