BRACKEN COUNTY 14, LLOYD MEMORIAL 13 (SOFTBALL)

Kaitlyn Wills singled to center in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Kelsey Hitch and giving Bracken County a 14-13 win over Lloyd Memorial on Wednesday.

The Juggernauts tallied three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, before Hitch walked and stole second to lead off the bottom half of the inning. Olivia Bell singled to left, putting runners at the corners. Georganna Carpenter was intentionally walked, loading the bases for Wills.

Wills went 4-for-5 in the game with two RBIs. Savannah Engnes was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Carpenter was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored and Bell was 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Katelyn Bond also drove in a run for the Lady Bears.

Madison Kennedy led Lloyd Memorial’s offense with a double and home run, finishing with six RBIs and two runs scored.

Bell pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and seven walks while striking out four. Carpenter pitched the other 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on one hit and four walks while striking out five.

Lloyd Memorial falls to 1-5 with the loss. They’ll travel to Bellevue on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. game.

Bracken County improves to 2-4 with the win. The Lady Bears are scheduled to host Calvary Christian on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

NICHOLAS COUNTY 8, FLEMING COUNTY 0 (BASEBALL)

Sam Hamilton allowed only one hit to pitch Nicholas County past Fleming County, 8-0, on Wednesday.

Hamilton pitched all seven innings, striking out 10 and walking three. The only hit he allowed in the contest was a single to Josh Crump.

The Panthers kept the game scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when the Bluejackets brought six runs home, highlighted by a grand slam from Kody Campbell. Nicholas County added two more runs in the sixth. Aschten Saunders recorded two RBIs in his three-hit day, while Morgan Planck drove in the other run.

Crump pitched the first 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Andrew Jackson came on in relief, striking out three while allowing three runs in 0.2 innings. Cole Saunders also pitched an inning for the Panthers, who fall to 5-4. Nicholas County moves to 10-3 with the win.

BATH COUNTY 20, MASON COUNTY 0 (3 INNINGS) (SOFTBALL)

Bath County scored 19 runs in the second inning to power their way to a 20-0, three inning win over Mason County on Wednesday.

Alexandria Faudere and Jesselin Miller both homered in the contest, finishing with a combined nine RBIs. Savannah Hamilton, Talyn Alderman, Samantha Swartz and Kelsey Roberson each recorded multi-RBI games.

Brianna Day and McKenna Moore pitched the combined shutout, while Lexy Cooper took the loss for the Lady Royals. Cooper had Mason County’s only hit.

Bath County improves to 8-8 and will travel to West Carter on Monday for a 6 p.m. game, while Mason County falls to 2-10 and is scheduled to travel to Fleming County on Friday for a 5:45 p.m. game.

WHITEOAK 8, WEST UNION 4 (BASEBALL)

West Union has fallen.

The Dragons lost to Whiteoak, 8-4, on Wednesday in a battle of unbeaten teams.

Five errors proved costly for West Union, as four of the eight runs Brandon Cornell gave up in the contest were unearned. Cornell threw six innings, allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out eight.

The Wildcats got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, before both teams tallied two runs in the third, making it 3-2 in favor of Whiteoak. West Union retook the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run double from Cornell, but Whiteoak responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead and create some breathing room, before adding another in the sixth.

West Union falls to 6-1 and will travel to Lynchburg-Clay on Thursday for a 5 p.m. game, while Whiteoak improves to 12-0 on the season.

BETHEL-TATE 6, GEORGETOWN 5 (8 INNINGS) (SOFTBALL)

Errors proved costly for the Lady G-Men.

Bethel-Tate’s Alli Stolz hit a pop fly in the eighth inning and Riley Smith scored to send Georgetown home with a 6-5 loss.

The Lady G-Men got off to a good start, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Caylee Graham, but Bethel-Tate scored two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. Georgetown tied the game in the top of the seventh when a ground ball hit by Kim Seigla scored Destiny Barnes.

Libby Scott pitched all 7.2 innings for Georgetown, allowing nine hits and one walk while striking out two. Of the six runs the Lady G-Men allowed, none were earned.

Isabelle Manning allowed five runs on eight hits while striking out three in eight innings in the circle.

Georgetown falls to 1-8-1 with the loss. They’ll travel to Clay on Saturday for a 10 a.m. game.

Bethel-Tate improves to 3-5 with their second win over Georgetown in as many days. They’ll host Purcell Marian on Thursday.

WESTERN BROWN 11, EASTERN 0 (5 INNINGS) (SOFTBALL)

Sydni Barnes allowed only one hit in five innings as Western Brown beat Eastern Brown, 11-0.

Western Brown scored seven runs in the first two innings and added four more in the fourth in the victory. Mary Sizer led the way, going 3-for-3 with a home run, double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Eastern had three errors in the game and of the 11 runs allowed by Taylor Dotson, only four were earned. Dotson allowed nine hits and four walks while recording two strikeouts. Morgan Reynolds had the only hit for the Lady Warriors – a triple in the top of the fifth.

It’s the first loss for Eastern in nine games. The Lady Warriors are scheduled to host Ripley on Thursday in a 5 p.m. game. Western Brown moves to 10-2. They’re scheduled to host Williamsburg on Thursday.
