MAYSVILLE — Larry Keith Phillips, 77, passed away at his home on Orangeburg Road, Nov. 28, 2019.

Born on May 27, 1942, he was the son of the late Chan and Louise Lowe Phillips. He attended Orangeburg Elementary School, graduated from Maysville High School in 1960, attended Eastern Kentucky University and received a Bachelor’s of Science from University of Kentucky in 1965 where he worked on UK’s Coldstream Farm, was a member of the UK Livestock Judging Team and the UK Meats Judging Team.

During his life, Larry lived on the Phillips’ family farm on Stonelick Road and Orangeburg Road where he operated his life-long cattle business. As a dedicated cattleman, he attended auction school in Missouri, built and operated Phillips Meat Processing with his parents, was a co-owner of the Flemingsburg Stockyards, taught agriculture at the Maysville Community College and worked closely with his sons’ cattle business, Rocking P Livestock. Most recently, he worked as a cattle appraiser, a cattle buyer and worked for Bluegrass Stockyards in Maysville. He was a member of the American Simmental Association for 50 years, a member of Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association, a director of the Mason County Livestock Improvement Association and a member of the Shannon United Methodist Church.

Larry is survived by his wife, Kathy Jo Achor Phillips. His surviving children are Chanslor James (Tonya) Phillips, Corinne Louise (Trip) Fetter, Edith Anne (Bill) Porter and Ronald Keith (Lindsay) Phillips; and step-son, Leighton Grover. Grandchildren include Morgan (Sam) Wallace, AK Phillips, Will Porter, Henry Fetter, Brayden Porter, Phillip Fetter, Karly Sue Fetter, Eli Porter, Josie Phillips, Bracey Porter and Wyatt Phillips. Also surviving are his sister Edith Phillips Ryan, his children’s mother, Donna Phillips; his niece Kathi (Ralph) Rinesmith and great-nephew, Ryan (Lucy) Owens; and his sister-in-law, Kim (Neil) Miller.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ronald J. Ryan; and his niece, Susan Ryan Owens

The service will be officiated by Bro. Terry Lester at Moore and Parker Funeral Homes on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at 1 p.m.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, 4-8 p.m. and prior to the service on Sunday starting at 11 a.m.

Serving as memorial speakers are Mike Denham, Terry Burks and Johnny Parker.

Interment will follow the memorial service at the Phillips Family Farm on Taylor Mill Road and afterwards, guests are invited to join the family for fellowship at the Maysville Stockyards. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Henry Allen, Jack Anderson, JR Boulden, Charlie Boyd, Ray Campbell, Tony Case, Dick Clary, Kenny Cracraft, Jamie Johnson, Sam Kemp, Doug Kiskaden, David Love, Gary Moran, Tom Oldfield, Doug Parke, Bill Peterson, Paul Redmond, Jim Spears, Brent Tolle, Coy Trapp and Harold Workman.

Memorial gifts may be given to Shannon United Methodist Church, Maysville Hospice of Hope, Cancer Care Club of Flemingsburg and Mason County Livestock Improvement Association.
