MAYSVILLE — Marjorie Bernadine Goldsberry 89, of Cincinnati, formerly of Chicago, native of Ripley, Ohio peacefully passed away Tuesday night, Sept. 25, 2018.
Marge was one of five children born to Forest and Louise Brown Goldsberry.
According to her 103-year-old aunt, Monica Hicks, her birth on Aug. 9, 1929 in Ripley, Ohio marked the last day of the 1929 Ripley Fair and the beginning of the Great Depression. Marge graduated from Ripley High School in 1947. Shortly after graduation, she began working for the telephone company in Ripley, then Cincinnati, then accepting a transfer to Chicago, Ill. She retired from the Chicago ATT Office as an equipment engineer after 40 years.
Marge was a precious daughter, sister and aunt. To the end she was strong, classy, loving and fiercely independent.
She is survived by one sister, Suzanne Emmons of Ripley; and her brother-in-law, Bobbie Reetz, of Ripley; nieces, Karen Heller and Regina (Terry) Applegate of Maysville, Julie (Jay) Baldwin of St. Mary’s, Ohio, Mary Ann (Scott) Porter of Fleming County, Marybeth Reetz Ring of Alabama, Susan (Brian) Reetz of Ripley, Pat (Larry) Fithen, Martha (Danny) Fithen, Sara (Walt) Goldsberry, all of Ripley and Susan Cropper of Georgetown, Ohio; nephews, David Emmons of Ripley, Michael Reetz of Winchester and William Goldsberry Jr. of Browns Mills, N.J.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Jean Reetz; and two brothers, Bill and Fred Goldsberry.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Ripley. Rev. Dohrman Byers will officiate.
Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery of Ripley.
There will be no visitation.
Brell and Son Funeral Home is serving the family.
