MAYSVILLE — Charlotte (Ryan) Gast, born to William (Toad) and Cecelia (Cooney) Ryan on June 16, 1940 in Washington, passed away on Sept. 5, 2018, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Charlotte was the youngest of six children raised in the loving, hard-working Ryan home. At an early age she learned well the values of faith, family and work from her parents and older siblings.
Charlotte attended St. Patrick School in Maysville, where she graduated in 1958.
Several years later she married and moved to Cincinnati, before giving birth to her children, Jay and Jill.
In 1968, after returning to Maysville to be closer to her parents, Charlotte began work in the Word Processing Department at Browning Manufacturing. During her 41 years with Browning, Charlotte came across many co-workers, who grew into friends. Charlotte never refused a request for help with a project, whether it was professional or personal, frequently bringing assignments home or returning to the office in late hours.
Charlotte’s love of basketball was only surpassed by the love she had for her family. She grew up watching her brother, Bill, play as aggressively as anyone who ever wore the St. Patrick uniform. Years later she watched as Jay played and Jill cheered for the Saints. Charlotte’s support for Saints basketball continued for years to come as she rooted for many nieces, nephews and all the young men and women who played.
After her retirement from Browning Manufacturing in 2009, she was frequently found visiting Jill’s first grade class at St. Joseph Catholic School in Cold Spring or with grandsons Ryan and Cole in northwest Ohio.
Charlotte will be forever remembered for her unrelenting faith to God and dedication to family. She was uncommonly kind and giving but at the same time unwaveringly demanding and staunch in her beliefs.
She was always maintained a true balance in life and she never expected anymore of others than what she was capable of herself.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, William (Toad) and Cecelia (Cooney) Ryan; and her sister, Mary Jo Ryan.
She is survived by her son, Jay (Laurie); daughter Jill; and grandsons Ryan (Brenna) and Cole; as well as sisters Gloria Germann, Betty Williams and Lillian O’Neill (Leo); and brother, Bill Ryan; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to please consider a donation to St. Patrick School, 318 Limestone Street, Maysville, Ky 41056.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick Church 110 East Third Street Maysville, Ky on Saturday Sept. 15, 2018 at 11 a.m.
Charlotte’s family will be receiving guests one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Charlotte leaves this earth for a better place, proud of her life, her accomplishments and her family. She will remain with us forever but will forever be missed.
