MAYSVILLE — Laura Belle Applegate, 80, of Maysville, died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the Golden Living Center in Vanceburg.
She was the widow of Everett “Sonny” Applegate who died Sept. 7, 2011.
Mrs. Applegate was a member of The Shepherd’s House and had formerly worked at US Shoe and also owned and operated her own daycare. The children at the daycare called her “Mamaw Lolly.”
Laura was born in Vanceburg on Jan. 8, 1938, the daughter of the late Bill and Mary Stidham Arthurs.
She is survived by her four sons, Jimmy Gilbert, Mark Applegate (Angie), Troy Applegate (Melissa) and Kelly Applegate (Lisa), all of Maysville; seven grandchildren, Nick Gilbert (Tara), Derek Gilbert (Amanda), Macenzie Gilbert, Justin Lacy (Holly), Gunnar Applegate, Kaylee Applegate and Ashlee Applegate; five great-grandchildren, Sophia Gilbert, Elliott Gilbert, Aiden Gilbert, Wyatt Gilbert and Zoey Lacy; and three brothers, Frank Arthurs and Carl Arthurs, both of Vanceburg and Roy Arthurs of Maysville.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Beulah Hopper; and her brothers, Leon Arthurs and Bruce Arthurs.
Services for Laura Applegate will be held at the Olivet United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018, with Rev. Kent Moore and Rev. Gordon Jones officiating.
Burial will follow in the Olivet Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gunnar Applegate, Nick Gilbert, Derek Gilbert, Justin Lacy, Johnny Fossitt and Wayne Mason.
Visitation will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home on Monday, July 23, 2018, from 5-8 p.m.
