RIPLEY, Ohio — Donald Howard “Brookie” Brookbank, age 84, of Ripley, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at his residence, with his loving wife, Doris beside him.
He was born June 13, 1934, in Higginsport, Ohio, the son of the late Ray and Lena Brookbank.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Ray Garrison.
Brookie is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Doris (Jones) Brookbank; five children, Jackie Jansen (Matt) of Cincinnati, Donnie Brookbank (Lori) of Maysville, Jill Benintendi (Chris) of Cincinnati, Joy Haney of Lexington and Darrin Brookbank of Ripley; 12 grandchildren, Mackenzie Jansen Nichols (Ben), Zack Jansen, Andrew Benintendi, OliviaBenintendi, Lilly Benintendi, Maddie Haney, Maci Haney, Joe Haney, Collin Brookbank, Claire Brookbank, Ben Brookbank and Luke Brookbank.
Brookie grew up in Higginsport, Ohio and graduated from Higginsport High School. His love for the Ohio River crossed over from his professional life of making a living, to years of recreational enjoyment. He was self-employed, running his company, Brookbank River Transportation, until his retirement in 2008. He then went to work on his farm along the Ohio River.
Brookie was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite and Shriners.
He was also a Director at the Citizens Bank of Higginsport for over 50 years and was a Director at the OK Warehouse for many years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed participating and watching games.
Following cremation, a Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Ripley, Ohio. Matt Carpenter will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 10-12:30 p.m. on Saturday atthe church.
