ATHENS, Texas — Mike, as everyone knew him, was born on Nov. 5 1951, in Maysville.

He made his way to Texas in 1975 where he meet the love of his life Venita Munns Fizer. He has spent the last 40+ years putting up steel buildings he was always a hard worker. He did everything he could do to make sure his family and friends never were in need of anything.

Mike and Nita were married on Valentine’s Day in 1976. They have enjoyed the last 42 years of marriage raising their wonderful children and watching their five grandchildren grow up. Mikes grandchildren where his life, known as “Pawpa”, He would do anything that his grandchildren wanted to do even if it was getting himself into trouble. Mike was the one who could always make everyone laugh, he was always full of life, and you would never know what would come out of his mouth. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Venita Munns of Athens; son, Brian and wife, Jessica Fizer of Kentucky; daughter, Nichole and husband, Anthony Rayborn of Athens; son, Justin and wife, Jamie Fizer of Athens; grandchildren, Jonathan Kirkpatric, Hunter McGuffey, Sarah Fizer, Trever Rayborn and Chaz Rayborn; brothers, David and wife, Patty Cobb of Ohio and Phillip and wife, Kay Fizer of Kentucky; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewings will be Thursday at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.

Services will be held at the Cowboy Church in Athens Friday at 11 a.m.

Burial will immediate follow in the Zoin Hill Cemetery in Walton. Pallbearers Tommy Clark, Tom Martin, Marvin Lorrance, Marvin Groom, Lars Grammer and Chad Clemente.
