FLEMINGSBURG – The Kentucky Department of Highways will be temporarily closing the Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge over the Ohio River at Maysville on Tuesday to make railing and roadway repairs.

The bridge will close at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, and remain closed that day until 3 p.m. as crews repair railing that suffered recent crash impact damage and repair a damaged section of the bridge’s concrete road surface.

Affected Kentucky motorists should detour using the AA Highway or Kentucky 8 to US 68 and cross the nearby William Harsha bridge to access US 52 and US 62 in Ohio. Ohio motorists should use US 68 across the Harsha bridge for destinations in Kentucky.

If weather conditions or flooding force a change in the work schedule, repairs will be rescheduled as soon as possible, likely later in the week, as the work is necessary for pedestrian and motorist safety.

Electronic message boards will be used at both ends of the bridge next week to notify the traveling public of repair schedules and changes.

Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
