AUGUSTA – A man was arrested and a stolen car recovered after an accident in Bracken County on Saturday.

According to Augusta Police Chief Matt Jones, Augusta dispatch received a call at around 8:47 p.m., on Saturday of a reckless vehicle.

“About a few minutes after we had received that call another call came in reporting the vehicle stolen,” Jones said.

The stolen vehicle, a white Toyota Camry, was located 15 minutes after the second call when a third call came in that a passerby had come upon a wrecked vehicle that matched the description of the stolen vehicle. It was found on Kentucky 8 (Mary Ingles Highway) just outside of Augusta.

According to Jones, Bonnolaray Craig was arrested on charges related to the stolen vehicle.

“The incident ended quickly and safely with the help of alert citizens,” a social media post by the Augusta Police Department read.

Craig was charged with one count of receiving stolen property of $10,000 or more. He is currently lodged in the Mason County Detention Center on a $2,500 bond. He is set to appear in court on Jan 23.

According to Jones, Augusta Police Department, Bracken County Sheriff’s Office, Bracken County EMS and Augusta Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the incident.
