FLEMINGSBURG — A contractor has been chosen to repair a slip on Wooley Road in Fleming County.

Pettit Contractors out of Morehead will be completing the work for the county in the amount of $63,847.50.

The bid was approved by the fiscal court magistrates during a special meeting on Friday.

According to Fleming County Judge-Executive Larry Foxworthy, Wooley Road, which is located in the Goddard area of the county, has been in need of a permanent repair for some time.

About 500 feet of the road has fallen away. Over time, smaller temporary repairs have been made.

“We did repairs out there about six years ago that didn’t hold,” he said. “So this is being done to hold the road intact.”

Foxworthy said the road is open to the public right now.

“We made some temporary repairs to it to make sure the road was passable,” he said. “Hopefully, this repair will last for some time. We believe it will.”

The county recently received emergency road funds from the state for this project. That funding totaled $51,100. The remainder of the cost will be covered by the county road fund.

“The Transportation Cabinet is pleased to approve this request for funding to provide assistance to Fleming County to repair and maintain safe connections in the community,” Transportation Secretary Jim Gray said about the funding.
