We’d like to welcome Jake Garza as a new member of our team here at The Ledger Independent.

Jake will be our new sports reporter as he teams up with Sports Editor Evan Dennison to provide the community with all the sports happenings in the area. Jake is from Indianapolis, Indiana and a recent graduate of Indiana University (we know, don’t hold it against him) with a Major in Sports Media, Sports Journalism Specialization.

Prior to attending IU, Jake earned his honors diploma from Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis. Jake has experience in writing for the Indiana Daily Student newspaper, SB Nation’s Crimson Quarry and a Indiana Pacers contributor for Hoops Habit. In the summer of ’18, Jake interned for the Indianapolis Fire Department as the Media Relations intern.

“I’m excited to be working with a big variety of different schools and sports. Everyone I’ve met so far has been very welcoming and it’s been fun getting settled into a new city,” Garza said. “Basketball is my favorite sport, so I’m looking forward to the winter sports season the most.”

Some things Jake likes to do in his off time include playing basketball, playing video games and reading. Most of his reading is basketball related with one of his favorites being “The Book of Basketball” by Bill Simmons. He should fit in very well here with his love of basketball.

“We are pleased to welcome Jake to the team here at The Ledger Independent. He brings a fresh set of eyes to our sports coverage and will be a tremendous asset to the team,” Publisher Rod Baker said. “We scored big when he agreed to join our staff.”

We’re happy to have Jake on board here at The Ledger Independent. If you see him out at a game or in the community, give him a nice welcome.
