The New Hope Community Services Breaking the Chains event has changed locations.

The event, which will take place on Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. has been moved to the Maysville Community and Technical College.

Adam Snipes, with New Hope Community Services, said the event is about bringing awareness to many different areas.

Some of the areas that will be focused on include self harm, DUIs, domestic violence, child abuse, bullying and suicide. There will be skits and scenes used to bring awareness to the different issues.

“With this community awareness event, we’re going to be focusing on addiction, domestic violence, youth risk, suicide,” he said. “We’ll have a DUI setting with a crash car scene. We want to bring an awareness to several different realms. It’s not just solely focused on substance abuse and DUI. We’re going to take the public around to the different scenes.”

The event is free to the public and will be held rain or shine.

NHCS is an organization dedicated to bringing mental health services to the area.

Some of the services Snipes and Amber Neely, who is also with NHCS, recently highlighted included DUI and addiction recovery.

“We offer DUI first offense education,” she said. “It lasts about two and a half weeks, which is about 20 hours total. All someone has to do is call and set up an appointment and we’ll set up an assessment. We also offer treatment for second offenses and more and that’s up to a year of treatment.”

Snipes said it is estimated that around 88,000 people die from alcohol-related causes every year.

“A lot of these statistics we’re looking at is very alarming,” he said. “In 2014, it was estimated that 31 percent of all driving fatalities were alcohol related. Whether you, or someone you know, needs help, reach out to us. We’re here to help.”
