MOUNT OLIVET — Visitors to the Robertson County School District are now required to show identification and be put into the Raptor system.

The Raptor System can research data based on visitor IDs. It will check the National Sex Offender Registry and also check to make sure the visitor does not have an emergency protection order against them, according to Robertson County School Principal Aaron Massey.

Massey said the system was put into place in response to a recent piece of legislation regarding school safety measures and to better protect the students.

“With the new law regarding safety in schools, we decided to implement the Raptor system,” he said. “When someone comes into the building, they must bring their photo ID and show it to the person at the front desk.”

According to Massey, the ID will be scanned and a sticker will print out with the person’s information and destination on it.

“We will know who that person is and who they are visiting,” Massey said.

Massey said when the visitor is finished inside the building, they will return to the office and turn in the sticker. The system will check them out of the building.

Feedback from the community about the system has been overwhelmingly positive, according to Massey.

“So far, we’ve had all positive feedback,” he said. “Parents are happy to see it implemented because they know their system’s safety is our priority.”

According to a letter sent to parents from Massey, staff will also be wearing identification within the building.

“This year, all staff will be wearing ID badges,” he said in the letter. “This process should be completely phased in by Sept. 20. We are doing this to help students identify staff members and to be able to notify a trusted adult if they see something that should not be happening or someone that should not be in the building.”

Massey said the new policies are about keeping the students safe.

“Our students safety is our number one priority,” he said. “This is just one of the ways we are working to keep our students safe.”
