Hospital staff and several members of the community welcomed Dr. Jeffrey Dickerson back to his outpatient clinic with an open house Thursday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center.

Dickerson said he has been working with pulmonary, or lungs, and sleep medicine for 27 years

“I was in Maysville here in 2004, this was a clinic of pulmonary and sleep, me and Nurse Chavon Linville to 2014,” he said.

At that point, Dickerson said he closed the clinic and worked elsewhere in Meadowview as a hospitalist while still practicing sleep medicine for five years. Previously, he also practiced in Morehead for seven years and in Montana for four years.

“I enjoy taking care of asthma, COPD, sleep medicines, especially sleep apnea, narcolepsy, lung cancer — I don’t enjoy anybody having lung cancer but I don’t mind taking care of that,” Dickerson said. “It’s what I started at, and it’s where I will end my career at.”

Coming back from being a hospitalist to his outpatient practice, Dickerson said the feeling is ‘sweet,’ looking back at the time he has spent with his career and the people he has managed to help along the way.

“It’s been enjoyable taking care of people,” he said. “I’ve saved all of the cards I’ve gotten from people — that means more to me than anything else I’ve ever done in medicine — just a thank you card for getting people better and helping them through the hard times.”

Joe Koch, CEO of Meadowview Regional Medical Center said the hospital is glad to have Dickerson reopening his outpatient practice and continuing to serve the community in and around Maysville.

“We’re very excited that Dr. Dickerson is going back to the outpatient pulmonology practice,” Koch said. “He was a long term outpatient pulmonologist here, took a break from that, came to the hospital as a full time hospitalist and took great care of our inpatients as well for the past five years. We still have our challenges with tobacco use, and there’s a lot of pulmonary disease in our area, and to be able to have Dr. Dickerson treat patients on the outpatient side is a blessing for our community.”
