FLEMINGSBURG — Replacement of the Kentucky 111 bridge over Allison Creek will begin next week in Fleming County, while the bridge will be closed to all traffic for the work.

Beginning on or around July 17, contractors will close Kentucky 111 over Allison Creek between Poplar Plains and Kentucky 32, at mile marker 11.9, to repair the bridge and replace its superstructure. The bridge and roadway will remain closed for up to 30 days once work begins.

During the project, all through traffic on Kentucky 111 will be detoured using Kentucky 156, Kentucky 158, Kentucky 32 and other routes.

Motorists should follow detour signs and message boards.

The project is being done by M and M Services Company, Inc., under a $2,688,780.76 Transportation Cabinet contract for six bridge rehabs through the Bridging Kentucky program.

Bridging Kentucky is a statewide program that plans to rehabilitate or replace more than 1,000 bridges throughout the state.

The initiative plans to, over a six year period, “reopen closed bridges, remove weight restrictions that prevent use by school buses, emergency vehicles and businesses and improve access and mobility for all Kentuckians,” according to Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet goes on to say this program is one of the most aggressive bridge rehabilitation and replacement programs in the nation.

Over the first two years alone, the Bridging Kentucky team will begin working on nearly 400 bridges, officials said.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions.

Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
