FLEMINGSBURG — A brand new committee, focused on the district athletic program, will soon be created for the Fleming County School district.

Superintendent Brian Creasman said in a recently issued letter that he had been receiving concerns from many parents, community members and coaches regarding the athletic program. Many of the concerns raised involved the condition of athletic facilities, number of athletic scholarships, summer development opportunities, youth events and athletic fund-raising.

Hearing these issues, Creasman said addressing some of them could not be a swift process, with many of the issues unable to be solved by the school district alone.

“Based on the complexities relating to many of the concerns, Fleming County Schools will be forming a district-wide athletic committee, or task force, that will be charged with helping the district to develop a five-year athletic strategic plan, beginning with an athletic program evaluation to be conducted as soon as possible,” he said.

According to Creasman, the committee will be chaired and co-chaired by either a parent, community or business representative, with “logistical assistance provided by the district.”

Overall, the committee will be made up of one administrator from an elementary school, one administrator from Simons Middle School, one administrator from Fleming County High School, six parents, one from each school, two community members, one business representative and District Finance Officer Andy Plank.

Creasman also added that the parent representatives will be selected by each school’s site-based decision making council.

“The committee, once the five-year plan has been completed, will present to the Fleming County Board of Education for approval and implementation,” he said.

“This committee is one of the most important teams the district has ever assembled. Therefore, we need people who are creative, open-minded, goal oriented, knowledgeable about K-12 sports, and understands the challenges the district faces. More importantly, we need individuals who have the commitment to make the athletic program the best in Kentucky.”

Those who are interested in serving in the committee asked to complete a survey, which can be found on the Fleming County School’s Facebook page. The deadline to complete the survey will be July 12.

Creasman said that the goal is to have at least one preliminary meeting during the summer. For those with further questions, they can call 606-845-5851.
