Looking for a chance to make someone take a dive.

Your opportunity is set for Saturday when the Mason County High School chapter of the Technology Student Association holds Royal Spring Splash for Camp Discovery.

Royal Spring Splash is set for 1-3 p.m., at the Mason County Schools STEAM Academy.

As part of its Student Ambassador Initiative, announced by the Kentucky Education Commissioner in January, the chapter submitted a community service proposal to the Commissioner’s office and it was accepted.

In order to participate in the Student Ambassador Initiative, interested student groups from public schools, faith-based organizations or nonprofit organizations submitted details of an education-related community service project to be performed over the remainder of the school year.

In March, the student groups will submit a video and any supporting materials highlighting their project, including its impact. Lewis will select five groups that made the largest local impact and invite them to an awards luncheon in April.

For its project, the Mason County High School chapter of TSA is partnering with Camp Discovery, a summer day camp program in Maysville, for middle and low income kids aged five to 12. Camp Discovery operates all summer and is free to all campers. This includes breakfast, lunch, and a snack every day.

The goal of this community service project is to raise funds, in the form of donations, that will enable the Camp to purchase playground style basketball goals and backboards for its court. The group has set a goal to raise $2,000 in donations.

Mason County Schools Superintendent Rick Ross, along with Seth Faulkner, Brad Cox, Tim Molton have agreed to sit in a dunking booth for donations that reach a minimum level for each volunteer. For example, for Ross to be dunked, he needs a total donation of $300. You can choose who you want to see “get wet” and get a chance to dunk “your choice.”
