FLEMINGSBURG — Fleming County Fiscal Court met Tuesday morning, discussing a number of resolutions and grant applications. Included was a discussion repairing the Fleming County Senior Center facility.

“The roof is in terrible shape,” Fleming County Judge-Executive Larry Foxworthy said during the November meeting. “Now, Licking Valley (CAP) has been using this for the last seven years and we haven’t been charging anything for them using it.”

With both roofing and potential window repairs, Foxworthy advised the court in November to consider a bidding process to work toward fixing the building in the future. In the December meeting, discussion also gravitated toward possible repairs to the facility floors and HVAC on top of its other issues.

The court determined that grant funding may be made available in spring of next year, possibly with a 15 percent match of funding on CBDG funds and a 25 percent match for ARC funds. Further discussion about funding was tabled for the January court meeting.

Another continuation from last month’s meeting was the discussion regarding vandalism committed to the Fleming County Recreational Park picnic area. According to Fleming County Sheriff Gary Kinder, individuals had gone into the picnic area’s restrooms and destroyed toilets and sinks, and overturned picnic tables.

Foxworthy said the damage was estimated between $8,000-$9,000; however after a formal estimate, the total ended up around $14,000.

According to Kinder, no arrests have been made in conjunction to the vandalism, although he told the court it was only a matter of time before those responsible, who he assumes are teenagers, start bragging about their activity.

To expedite the process, the court approved a motion to post a $500 reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the vandalism.

In other business:

— The court approved an agreement with RCS Communications to conduct maintenance for three sirens in the county — one each in Flemingsburg, Hillsboro and Mount Carmel. The total cost of the agreement is $105.

— The court accepted and approved bids received by Jody S. Gray for $63,900 for janitorial and part-time maintenance of the Fleming County Judicial Center and $28,800 for courthouse and maintenance garage janitorial services. Service will go on for a period of one year with an option to renew for an additional three years.

— A resolution to apply for a Kentucky Office of Homeland Security grant was approved by the court. Should the grant be awarded, the funds will be used to purchase tasers for the Fleming County Sheriff’s Office.
