Plans for Maysville’s annual Veteran’s Day parade have been announced by the Simon Kenton Post of the VFW Auxiliary.
The parade will take place on traditional Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and Bill Gatherwright will serve as the grand marshal of the event, according to information from the organization.
Line-up for the parade will take place beginning at 1 p.m.,near Ben’s Carwash on East Second Street, with the parade scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m.
Organizers are encouraging the community to get involved by taking part part in the parade by walking, marching or entering a float. Prizes will be awarded for winning float entries with $300 going to the first-place winner, $200 to second place and $100 for third place.
“Come and show our local heroes how much we appreciate them for our freedom,” a spokesperson for the organization said.
On Nov. 17, the auxiliary will sponsor a Veterans Dinner at the post located at 3177 Kentucky 9 AA Highway.
The dinner is free to vets and their families and is set to begin at 6 p.m.
The Mason County JROTC will be performing the Missing Man ceremony and will demonstrate flag etiquette.
