St. Patrick School recently received a large donation from a parishioner of the St. Patrick Church.

According to Rev. Jacob Straub, a donation in the amount of $50,000 was made by long-term parishioner E.B. Kern during the Fall Festival.

“It wasn’t planned or expected,” Straub said. “It was money he said he had from some extra savings and he wanted to donate it to the school. His children went through St. Patrick School and, I believe, most of his grandchildren.”

Straub said he is unsure how the school will utilize the money.

“We’re still in the process of thinking about what we do with it,” he said. “That’s something we’re talking about.”

The money is appreciated by everyone in the school district, Straub said.

“We were greatly surprised and ecstatic when (Kern) called us and said he wanted to donate the money to the school,” he said. “A donation like this means a lot to our district and we are truly appreciative of it.”

According to Straub, the school district, which has about 190 students enrolled, relies on the generosity of donors like Kern.

“We rely on the generous support of our donors,” he said. “It’s always appreciated when we have someone like this step up and help support our school.”
