A campaign to raise money for a classroom at Straub Elementary School was successfully funded in one day after being highlighted in The Ledger Independent.
Cindy Lands was trying to raise $424 to purchase phonics locks sets, fill in the blank stamps and reading skill dice that will assist her students with phonics.
“I teach first grade special education,” Lands had said about the fundraiser. “The supplies I have asked for are manipulatives that the kids can use to reinforce their learning. It gives them another way to practice. Teaching special education, we try to teach in a multi-sensory approach and the materials allow me to create learning experiences that reach multiple learning types.”
The campaign was so successful that Lands will be able to buy additional materials for her students.
“The campaign was by 8:30 a.m. (Thursday),” she said. “I have had other donations and promises of more to come. Local business have reached out to help raise future funds to support my students. The extra money will be used to buy materials for my classroom and give my students experiences that we may not have gotten to experience without the donations.”
Lands said she appreciates the support of the community.
“I am so overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support that has been shown,” she said. “I am so thankful for all the donors that found it in their hearts to support us. These materials will provide my students with wonderful learning opportunities.”
