Lawrence purchases Knox and Brothers Funeral Home

Knox and Brothers Funeral Home was recently purchased by David E. Lawrence, a 21-year associate of the 108-year-old Maysville firm.

Lawrence is a 33-year funeral practitioner in Maysville. He is a native of Maysville and graduated from Maysville High School in 1981 and attended the Maysville Community College. After serving his apprenticeship, he attended the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and graduated with an AAS in Mortuary Science and in 1988 he was licensed to practice funeral directing and embalming in Kentucky.

He joined the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home in 1997, serving families as a funeral director and embalmer and in 2012, he was made the location manager of the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home and the Barbour and Son Funeral Home.

Lawrence had the opportunity to purchase the firm earlier this year and began his private ownership for the longstanding community funeral home in April. In his purchase of the business, he also purchased the property, the fixed assets that include the prearrangements of both Knox and Brothers Funeral Home and Barbour and Son Funeral Home, as well as the equipment, furniture and vehicles.

David is the son of Lillie DeVaughn Hughes and the late Rev. Eugene Lawrence. He is married to Melissa Carpenter Lawrence and the couple have two children, Madison David Lawrence and Emily Lawrence Wade; and two grandchildren, Isabella Wade and Eli Wade.

“The Knox and Brothers Funeral Home has been dedicated to providing care and attention to each family we serve for well over 108 years,” Lawrence said. “We continually strive to stay on the leading edge of professional service and our personal commitment to being involved with the families we serve remains firm.”

David, his wife, family and his team members, Madison Lawrence, Bill Hensley, Carroll Price, Ray Young and Rebecca Bradford will continue to maintain the highest standards in the funeral profession and the goal is to serve everyone beyond expectation, Lawrence said.

The funeral home can be reached at 606-564-5522 for more information on services we offered, which includes prearrangements, traditional and multicultural funeral services and cremation services.
