FLEMINGSBURG — Fans of home crafts and culinary prowess can test their mettle at the Fleming County Showcase on July 28.

The Fleming County Showcase, hosted at the Fleming County Extension Office, allows the public to show off their skill in various categories ranging from canned foods to arts and crafts. The competition will be held in conjunction with the Fleming County Farmers Market on Saturday, July 28.

Entries for the showcase will be accepted on Friday, July 27, between 3-6 p.m. at the extension office.

Judging will take place immediately after entering. The show case of talents will then be open for viewing from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 28 when prizes will be given out. Entries then are to be picked up between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Along with the judges’ awards, there will be an opportunity for the public to vote on their favorite item.

This event will be sponsored by the Fleming County Homemakers, Fleming County Farmer’s Market and various local organizations , businesses and individuals. There are no entry fees and high premiums will be offered along with ribbons given for first, second and third places. There will be a category for professionals to enter.

The following are the categories available for the open classes:

For crafts there will be sewing – accessory/small item, sewing – clothing, card making, crochet – yarn, crochet – thread, doll/toy, drawing, basic embroidery, machine embroidery, holiday decorations, jewelry, knitting, art painting, decorative painting, color photography – mounted and framed, black and white photography – mounted and framed, applique quilt, pierced quilt, novelty quilt, baby/lap or wall-hanging quilt, recycled art, rug making, scrap booking, wreath, miscellaneous and wooden handcrafted item.

The canning category will have, quart jar fruit, quart jar green beans, quart jar tomatoes, quart jar tomato juice, jar of Salsa, jar of Chili Sauce, pint jar beets, pint jar sweet pickles, pint jar bread and butter pickles, pint jar relish, pint jar catsup, jar of any jam and jar of any jelly.

In garden vegetables, there will be beans – 1 doz. on a paper plate covered, onions, white – plate of three, onions, yellow – plate of three, tomatoes, red slicing – plate of three, beets – plate of four topped, and squash, yellow or zucchini – plate of three small.

For flowers there will be large zinnia, large marigold, rose and fresh arrangement.

The foods category will have plate of three biscuits, late of three muffins, plate of three yeast rolls, plate of three brownies/bar cookies, plate of three drop chip cookies, ½ loaf of any quick bread, plate of three cup cakes, decorated Cake and cake – any kind.

Commercial division will have basket of products/produce – display.
