BROOKSVILLE — The blessing box placed by the Bracken County Schools Future Business Leaders of America is in need of donations.
According to a recent Facebook post from the group,. the box is in need of items such as pork and beans, canned ravioli, vegetables, individual foods, baby, health and personal hygiene products.
“Currently, we have plenty of macaroni, peanut butter and fruits,” the group said. “If you are traveling this summer and don’t use the individual items such as shampoos and soaps from the hotel, please bring those to us. They are perfect for the box. Remember, take what you need, give what you can.”
The blessing box is located behind the Brooksville Christian Church, close to the Bracken County Family Resource Center.
It was placed by the FBLA last year after the organization adviser saw a need for one in the county.
In October 2017, Tracy Florer, adviser for the FBLA, said the students saw the success of the blessing boxes in Mason County and realized there was a need for one in Bracken County.
“We have a food pantry in Bracken County, that’s only open so many days a week,” Florer said. “The kids were amazed at the number of people who utilize the food pantry, so they wanted to do something more to help. There’s a real need for food in the county.”
It was constructed by the grandfather of one of the FBLA officers and Lowe’s in Maysville donated the material to construct it.
“The blessing box here will serve a slightly different group of people than the one in Maysville,” Florer said. “There will be items in there so families can make meals.”
