MANCHESTER, Ohio — The Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash.
The crash occurred on Ohio 136 near milepost three in Sprigg Township, Adams County at approximately 11:20 a.m., Wednesday.
According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Black Dodge Ram, operated by Ricky A. Weisner, 57, of West Union, Ohio, was turning north on Ohio 136 from a private driveway. A 2007 Sterling Truck carrying a load of lumber and concrete, operated by David L. Kennedy, 51, from Mount Olivet, was northbound on Ohio 136. The Sterling Truck had a passenger, Vincent J. Gibson, 38, of Carlisle.
Police said the preliminary investigation shows that the Dodge truck failed to yield from the private driveway in front of the Sterling truck. Kennedy struck the Dodge truck before driving left of center then over correcting, police said. Kennedy’s vehicle then overturned in the roadway, losing its load before coming to rest on its wheels. Weisner’s vehicle rolled over off the right side of Ohio 136 coming to rest in a ditch line, officials said.
The passenger in the Sterling truck, Gibson, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Adams County Coroner.
The driver, David L. Kennedy was entrapped in the truck and was removed by mechanical means by the Manchester and West Union Fire Department. He was then transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the Dodge truck, Weisner was not injured in the crash and refused treatment at the scene.
The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Police said drugs and/or alcohol were not a factor in the crash. All occupants involved were wearing installed safety belts.
