Summer lunch programs starting soon

The summer food program in Mason County will begin soon.

According to Michelle Moss, with the Housing Authority of Maysville, the program provides breakfast and lunch to area children under the age of 18. There are several locations that will serve food throughout the summer months.

“They don’t have to sign up,” she said. “They can just show up and eat.”

According to Moss, last year, about 11,000 meals were served in Mason and Bracken counties with more expected this year.

“We do expect a little more this year, because we’ve added a couple of locations and added breakfast at one location,” Moss said.

The schedule for Mason County includes:

Beechwood Community Center, May 21–Aug. 10 from 8:15 a.m.–9 a.m. (breakfast) and 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (lunch); Amo Peters Community Center, May 21–Aug. 10 from 11:15 a.m.–noon; St. Patrick School, May, 29–June 1 from 10 a.m.-10:30 a.m. (breakfast) and noon to 12:30 p.m. (lunch); Menemsha Townhomes, May 21–Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to noon, Monday and Fridays only; Woodleigh Homes, May 21–Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays only; Mason County Public Library, June 4–July 27 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays only; Maysville Community and Technical College July 9–July 12 from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.; May’s Lick Lighthouse Church June 11–June 13 from 6:40 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and May 21–Aug. 12 from 10:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Sundays only; Maysville Church of the Nazarene July 18–July 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and May 20–Aug. 12 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Sundays only.

In Bracken County, the Housing Authority food program times are:

City of Brooksville Watson Building, May 29–Aug. 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Bracken County Middle School, June 6-June 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Bracken County High School, May 29-May 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and June 6-8 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Augusta Independent School, June 4–Aug. 3, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Fairview Christian Church, June 3–June 7, 6- 8 p.m.; Willow Baptist Church, June 10–June 13, 5-6 p.m.; Bracken County Extension Office, June 5 from noon to 12:30 p.m.

The Fleming County School District will also have a summer lunch program. The schedule will be:

Fleming County Industrial Park Swimming Pool, open for lunches June 4-July 27 from noon to 2 p.m.; Fleming County Public Library, open for lunches and three suppers, summer feeding kick off June 1 from 6–8 p.m., summer reading kick off, June 6 from 5–7 p.m., story hour on Mondays, June 11, 18, 25 and July 9 and 16 from noon to 1 p.m., stepping up on Tuesdays, June 12, 19, 26 and July 10 and 17 from noon to 1 p.m., tweens on Wednesday, June 13, 20, 27 and July 11 from noon to 1 p.m. and summer reading finale July 18 from 5–6 p.m.; Bookmobile Outreach Program June 14, 21, 28 and July 12 and 19, Circle Drive Annex, Foxspring Ave lunch: 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.; Fleming Trace Apartments lunch 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Ridgeway Apartments Lunch from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.; Circle Drive Annex, June 4–July 27, lunch from 11 a.m. to noon; Fleming County Apartments, June 4-July 27, lunch: 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; Ridgeway Apartments, June 4- July 27 lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Simons Middle School, breakfast and lunch will be June 4-29, with breakfast from 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; lunch only will be July 2–27 with lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Back to School gala will be Aug. 2 with lunch from noon to 3 p.m.

Vacation Bible Schools schedules are: New Creations Praise and Worship, June 10-11 from 5:45-6:45 p.m.; Flemingsburg Baptist Church, June 12-13 from 5:45–6:45 p.m.; Victory Baptist Church, June 17–21 from 7–8 p.m.

In Lewis County, the public library will be providing lunch for those under 18 in the county from June 1-Aug. 7.

Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. on Saturdays. Lunch will be served at noon and snacks at 3 p.m. at the library.

Robertson County Schools will also have a summer lunch program from May 29-July 26.

Breakfast will be served from 9:20-11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the school.
