VANCEBURG — Pavement milling and blacktop patching work will continue this week along Kentucky 8 in eastern Lewis County, according to officials.

Road crews have been milling and prepping Kentucky 8 pavement from the Kentucky 59 intersection at Vanceburg to the Greenup County line. According to Kentucky Department of Highways District spokesman Allen Blair, the process of milling the old blacktop for patching is the first step of the job.

“They’ll mill out the old blacktop so when they put in the new blacktop it’ll connect,” Blair said, mentioning the specifics of the contractors’ job.

Blair said the procedure is a simple one, and that the contractors are planning to pave the areas that need patched on Friday. Motorists should be expecting lane closures and one-lane traffic during daytime work hours.

Weather could delay schedules, Blair said, which might cause some issues, but nothing significant.

“If weather would become an issue, then they’ll try to finish it up sometime next week,” Blair said.

Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling. For more information contact the District Nine office at 800-817-2551.
