BROOKSVILLE — Criminal cases in Bracken County Circuit Court spilled over to a second day after several indictments were handed down by a Bracken County grand jury.

Arraignments included a second degree burglary charge against Harold Len Davis, 42.

Davis allegedly entered the dwelling of Nick and Nina Clooney in Augusta on Feb. 25, “with the intent to commit a crime.”

According to Gary Adkins of the Commonwealth Attorney’s office, Davis allegedly took foreign coins from the property and was found with the items in his possession.

Davis pled not guilty through his recently assigned public defense attorney, Rob Clark.

When bond amounts were discussed Davis told Judge Stockton Wood it did not matter,”… if it was $25, I couldn’t make it.”

He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 15 for a preliminary hearing.

Davis remains in Mason County Detention Center on $12,500 bond.

A suspect in a number of theft-related incidents, Brandon Keith Hughes, 26, was arraigned on three different indictments related to stolen property, possession of guns by a convicted felon, drug sale and for being a persistent felony offender.

He was indicted for possession of allegedly stolen rifles, revolvers and shotguns as a convicted felon; and for possession of five of the same weapons, which had allegedly been stolen from the home of Geena Menkedick on June 2, and belonging to Wade Menkedick of Robertson County.

The other weapon, a revolver, was allegedly stolen from the home of Jimmy Powell, officials said.

Hughes was also indicted for a Nov. 11, 2009 illegal sale of oxycontin and another persistent felony offender charge.

In all, Hughes pled not guilty to 16 charges.

He remains in MCDC on $50,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing was also conducted in the rape, incest and sexual abuse case against James E. Cora.

According to witness, Chris Jaskowiac, and investigator with Kentucky State Police, a female family member, under the age of 12 at the time of the incident, was allegedly raped by Cora while her mother was away from the home.

Cora denied the claim and explained in court he had been experiencing marital problems when the allegation surfaced. He also said he had filed for divorce from his wife of 16 years after he was indicted.

A trial date has been set for September.
