For the past 14 years, audiences from across the region have been treated to the musical stylings of finalists from the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition.
In celebration of the 15th season, the John W. McNeill Memorial Music Series will play host to Minsoo Hong, second prize winner from the 2017 international competition. The concert will be given at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 20th at the Washington Opera House at 116 West Second Street in downtown Maysville.
General admission is $15. Students 18-years and under are admitted for $10. Seating is non-reserved and available for purchase at the door beginning one-hour prior to the evening of performance.
“This is such a unique opportunity for audiences to experience a world-class musician in an intimate setting,” said Mark Funk, a member of the McNeill series board of directors. “We are privileged to be the host.”
Born in Busan, South Korea , in 1993, Minsoo studied at the Korean National University of the Arts. He is currently in studies at the Hochschule Fer Musik and is on an international tour as part of the competition’s career development program.
Minsoo has been the winner or finalist in many international competitions.
His current world tour includes performances in Korea, Brazil, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands and the United States.
“Maysville is the smallest city and venue in which he will perform,” Funk said.
The Maysville concert will feature works by Liszt, Wagner, Gounod and Bellini and is expected to last 90-minutes, including an intermission.
The local music series is presented in honor of the late Judge John W. McNeill III and is sponsored and supported by the Hayswood Foundation and the Maysville Players.
