Kabler's Chatter...One versatile fruit Bell peppers are fruits in different colors, red, yellow, green and orange. They are usually thought of as vegetables, since they are not juicy or real sweet like most fruits. They are versatile and delicious in so many recipes that I purchase them weekly, year around. Bell peppers are not hot, they are easily prepared for cooking and have a great taste, cooked or raw. I really like using them in recipes, almost for their color. They are usually 2-5 inches in diameter and 3 inches long. more...

Kabler's Chatter...No leaving the table until you finish your brussel sprouts I hope to make you comfortable with cooking Brussels sprouts by giving you a variety of recipes. Gardens are now bountiful and some local gardeners are growing Brussels sprouts. This is a great low calorie, fiber food to include in your menus. Our favorite preparation is sliced, sauteed in a little margarine, sprinkled with balsamic vinegar and brown sugar. Brussels sprouts are easy to prepare and cook rather quickly. They are somewhat bitter, so a little brown sugar can make them delicious. more...

Changing traditions in the cemetery Spending time in a cemetery may seem strange in today's times, but during the Victorian era, which ran from 1837 to 1901, during the reign of England's Queen Victoria, the perception of cemeteries changed from a place of superstition to a place of beauty suitable for picnics, and taking leisurely strolls. more...
Cooking, Southern style Remembering when friends were over to spend the night, company was in for birthdays and holidays, mother's canasta club meeting once a month and company for the Germantown Fair, the aroma from the kitchen and those wonderful meals my mother prepared always come to mind. She also had many entries in the Floral Hall exhibit at the fair each summer and prized her collection of blue ribbons on transparent tarts, beaten biscuits, pecan pie, homemade bread and rolls, her moist jam cake, yummy cherry preserves, yeast donuts and a variety of homemade pickles and preserves. more...

Food for few: meals for one or two It seems to be a real challenge for some people to cook for just one or two people and it looks difficult but it is really quite easy to do. After the kids have left for college or married, you've divorced or you have lost a spouse, it is a big adjustment to down size your grocery purchases and the amount of food to prepare. If you aren't careful you will waste a lot of food. I intentionally try to prepare enough for one leftover meal when cooking. more...

The three top tourist attractions can be visited all in one day. Philadelphia is rich in history but it also has great night-life activities, shopping, culture, the arts and great food. Of course you can't leave without trying the great Philadelphia Steak and Cheese Sandwich. more...
